A meeting between government members from the Republic of Armenia and representatives from Kaspersky Lab was held on 16 September in Yerevan.
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Republic of Armenia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding entitled “Secure Armenia” aimed at collaboration in the area of IT security.
A meeting between government members from the Republic of Armenia and representatives from Kaspersky Lab was held on 16 September in Yerevan. The “Secure Armenia” memorandum was signed by Nerses Yeritsyan, the Republic of Armenia’s Minister for the Economy and Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab. Other key participants to the process included Tigran Sargsyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and Armen Ashotyan, the Minister for Education and Science. Ruslan Belousov, the General Director of Softline, an authorized partner of Kaspersky Lab, was also present at the meeting.
The memorandum is strategic in nature. The aim of the agreement is to facilitate a bipartite effort regarding the arrangement of infrastructure solutions for the antivirus protection of information systems owned by the state authorities and educational institutions of the Republic of Armenia.
The document states: “To achieve the established goals the parties are expected to jointly create temporary working groups to deal with economic and technical collaboration issues and together develop long-term collaboration programs for information protection.” A separate clause within the agreement envisages the active participation of Kaspersky Lab in the organization of educational programs. These programs would be directed at secondary, vocational and higher educational institutions in the Republic of Armenia, as well as professional development centers and the retraining of teachers and state employees.
“The signing of the memorandum enables one of the most important objectives in the development of information technologies to be accomplished – namely, improving knowledge about information security,” said Eugene Kaspersky. “A Kaspersky School and a Kaspersky Academy will promote the most complete and up-to-date information about modern technological methods for IT security and antivirus protection to students of schools and higher educational institutions in the Republic of Armenia. Jointly organized shows, conferences and seminars will raise the general level of knowledge concerning the protection of information.”
“Information technologies are important for the effective organization of activities by state and municipal authorities. Therefore, the status of the IT sector is to a large extent crucial in determining the development of the state in general and its economy in particular. The establishment of an open and secure information society can be successfully implemented through highly experienced people using the most up-to-date security technologies available in this sphere. ‘Secure Armenia’ is a significant move in this direction,” noted Nerses Yeritsyan.
