Kaspersky Lab and SpamTitan have announced a partnership which will see Kaspersky Lab’s award-winning antivirus engine included in the full range of SpamTitan products.
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, and SpamTitan, one of the first producers of Virtual Email Appliances, have announced a partnership which will see Kaspersky Lab’s award-winning antivirus engine included in the full range of SpamTitan products. SpamTitan has released two versions of its software suite, both of which are available as a 30 day free download from their website. SpamTitan ISO is a complete SpamTitan Operating System and software suite allowing customers to create a dedicated Email Gateway Appliance using their own hardware. SpamTitan for VMware© includes the SpamTitan software suite that is run specifically on a VMware© platform. This allows customers to create a Virtual Email Appliance with all the associated benefits of virtualization, including hardware and management overhead savings. SpamTitan blocks 98.5%+ of spam, contains dual AV engines, prevents Phishing and unwanted content, scans in and out bound email, and allows users with simple management tools to deal with all of today’s email security requirements.
Heralded for the accuracy and frequency of its updates, Kaspersky Lab outpaces other leading virus labs in the rapid release of new virus signatures, according to the most recently published research on response times. In a recent test of the 10 most popular security suites by the German magazine PC Professionell (August 2006), Kaspersky Lab was rated number one in the speed of response to a series of outbreaks between January and May 20061.
The speed of response to new threats is important not only during global epidemics. Today it is essential in case of local Trojan attacks, as they are often directed at small and medium companies and remain unnoticed for a long time. An example of this is a recent attack at a Japanese company by the malicious program Ginwui. According to PC Professionell, the program penetrated through a Microsoft Word vulnerability as a doc file and installed a Backdoor (a Trojan used by virus writers to detect and download confidential information, execute malicious code, destroy data and so forth). According to Tim Shine, SpamTitan Technical Director, “With our use of virtualization, we have been able to offer the market an affordable, scaleable solution which is easily deployed. Our partnership with Kaspersky Lab gives our customers the added reassurance that our solution gives them the utmost anti-virus protection for their email.” “Email-related threats have an important place in the classification of contemporary computer threats,” reports Vitaly Bezrodnykh, Kaspersky Lab Business Development Director. “Today, malicious programs often penetrate the computers of end users via email. This is why reliable and timely protection of mail systems is key to safe use of the Internet.”1Based on analysis by AV-Test GmbH, PC Professionell 08/2006.
