Kaspersky Lab announces that Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab together with Alexander Gostev, Director of Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research and Analysis Team have left Moscow on their glorious journey across Antarctica to the South Pole

Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab together with Alexander Gostev, Director of Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research and Analysis Team have left Moscow on their glorious journey across Antarctica to the South Pole.

Their route will start from the southernmost city in the world, Punta Arenas in Chile, where they’ll team up with Harry Cheung, Managing Director of Kaspersky Lab for the APAC Region. It’s from here that the team will all set off for the South Pole. There, at the world’s end, they’ll meet up with and congratulate the Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition as they complete their marathon journey.

“This just goes to show what the power of teamwork can do– Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition is about to make history by reaching the South Pole!” said Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of Kaspersky Lab. “Today our team is setting off to the opposite side of the world to welcome and congratulate the expedition on their glorious arrival and to show the entire world just how enormously effective teamwork can be!”

When the team from Kaspersky Lab gets to Punta Arenas they will receive special Antarctic training to prepare them for their onward journey. The briefing sessions will last until 29 December – the day before they depart for the Patriot Hills base camp in Antarctica. Once the Kaspersky Lab team arrives at base camp, they will await a signal from the expedition members to say that they are due to reach the South Pole.

As soon as this signal is received, the Kaspersky Lab team will themselves set off for the South Pole on a specially arranged flight. To reach the Pole they will have to cover a distance of 900 km, which is a 6 hour journey. But that is nothing compared to the deeds of the Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition – they have covered this distance on skis, each of them dragging 16 kilos of food and equipment behind them on sledges.

The triumphant moment when both teams meet at the southernmost tip of the world will be marked by the planting of a Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition flag. Taking into account that the average temperature in the region is around -50 degrees Celsius, the champagne and festivities will have to be put on hold until both teams return to the Patriot Hills base camp. Here, all the Antarctic travelers will enjoy a celebratory dinner to mark this historical event and will no doubt share their thoughts and experiences about their trip too.
